My Current Obsession

This is my new favorite group, Owl City. I am totally in love with this album, you might have heard their song Fireflies, it's totally rad and made me get the album on itunes. My favorite song on the whole album is Hello Seattle.

Listen to this, you can thank me later. It starts out kind of slow but it starts to get amazing around 1:25, this is the remix (it's my fave version).

Also, if you want to check out pics from my race on Saturday you can see them here.

What to do, what to do?

I've kind of stopped losing weight since I moved back here and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm pretty much eating the same and I'm still running around 10 miles a week. Apparently, I burned more calories than I thought standing at the bank?

Well, one of my neighbors stopped me yesterday and asked about being my running partner. The thing is, I could really use a running partner and I'm not exactly swimming in friends here but she is one of the neighbors that was really flaky before I moved. We actually had plans to do dinner at my place one Friday night and she just never showed up, nor did she ever talk about it. I guess she completely forgot?

I'm also a little wary because she is good friends with another neighbor and when they get together they like to act like their shit doesn't stink and that just really ticks me off because we all know if anyone's shit doesn't stink it's mine. Seriously though, they've never been mean to me but I've heard from a lot of the other women on the street that they can be a little rude.

Basically, I would love a running partner and another friend but I don't want any drama and I'm a little worried she carries drama with her where ever she goes. Sometimes the neighborhood wives can be a little like high school.

So, what do you think? Should I pursue this friendship?

When I first started running I never expected to get something more than improving my physical health, I just did it because it's good for you and it burns a ton of calories. I've lost a lot of weight running but that's not even close to being my favorite part about running.

Every time I run I'm challenging myself and, even though I try to deny it, I'm a highly competitive person. I like to win but even more than beat someone else I like to beat myself. I love to improve who I am mentally and physically.

So, for me running is a way that I can improve myself and it gives me a definite goal to work towards. Every 5K I've done so far, I've beat my previous time, it makes me feel so good to know that I'm going out there and giving it my all.

Some days I feel like there is no way I can run what's on my schedule (like Tuesday, 6 miles, I don't know how I'm going to do it) but I always go out there and just do it. I feel such a sense of accomplishment after a long run like that and it makes me feel like I can do anything that I put my mind to.

I just want to keep pushing myself, I don't ever want to feel worthless like I used to ever again.

Run Wild 5K

Yesterday was super freakin' hot but the race went well. We had a blast!

I beat my previous time by like 3 seconds so I was happy with that, considering it was 10 degrees hotter out this time.

The kids did great on their run and I'm pretty sure this is going to be something they do whenever I do a race. They love going out and running with me and they get a medal so they think they are the coolest kids on the planet.

Here are a few pics from yesterday, I couldn't get them to look at the camera because I was having a lot of problems with my camera on my phone, looks like my phone did not come away unscathed from the beach. Hope everyone had a great 4th of July too!

Run, Forrest, Run!!!!

If someone had told me 6 months ago that I could run 5 miles without stopping or dying, I wouldn't have believed them.

Today? I totally would...because I just did!!!

I'm doing another 5K this weekend for July 4th and this time both the kids are doing it too (well, the kids do a 1K). They're so excited, they have their bibs with their own numbers (just like mommy) and they think they are hot shit. I'm just really happy they are into something that is good for them and something we can do together.

Tomorrow I'm taking the final step and I'm registering for the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon in San Antonio. I'm so excited...and a little bit terrified, but I know I can do it. I still have 19 weeks to train and we're already at 5 miles, I'll be at 13.2 in no time.

That girl is a runnin' fool!

When I first moved to Houston I set this ridiculous goal with my cousin: I'm going to run a half marathon in November, it's a little crazy. When I set the goal I hadn't run over a mile since before Luis and I got married (7 years).

We started slow and set some small goals, one of those goals was to run a 5K. We did that on May 30 and it was awesome. It felt so great to go out there and run with a bunch of people and not feel like an impostor. I was a runner!

Our team photo after the 5K.

I enjoyed that 5K so much that the following weekend I was off work so I decided to run another one. I improved my time by over a minute and that felt awesome. So we set another small goal, run 10K by July 26. We're on track right now and I feel great, I'm surprised by the fact that I'm not hurting. I thought running at my weight was risky but turns out I was built for this, my knees are fine and the weight is practically falling off me, bonus!

Things are going so good that I'm starting to get really anxious about the 1/2 marathon in November. I made my hotel reservations already (it's in San Antonio) and I'm going to register as soon as my boss confirms my vacation but I'm so freakin' excited I can't wait! It's so weird though, I've never gotten this excited over something like this, I mean, it's hard work but I really enjoy it. I always wondered how people could just run but now I get it, it makes you feel so good, you can just zone out and totally de-stress.

So, be expecting some running related crap on here as I get closer to the marathon and come November you will definitely be getting some finish line pics on here.
